More Skeptical Content at Gen Con

The intrepid critical thinkers working to bring skeptical programming to this year’s Gen Con have announced a new name and new additions to their lineup of speakers. The newly renamed Skeptical Gamers have added the following presentations to their lineup for 2010:

“Building Local Skeptical Communities,” a workshop by Jen Myers, Skepchick, organizer with Central Ohioans for Rational Inquiry, and GRS web designer. Saturday 8/7 and Sunday 8/8 from 10 – 11 am.

“Break the Chain: E-mail Forwards and Introductory Critical Thinking,” a presentation by Tom Foss, using the dissection of lame chain e-mails/texts/Facebook wall posts to teach introductory skeptical skills. Sunday 8/8 from 11 am – noon.

“Acupuncture – An Implausible Premise Lacking Evidence,” a presentation by Skeptics In The Park creator Colin Thornton. He’ll go over the background of acupuncture, its scientific track record, and show off some real acupuncture implements. Thursday 8/5 from 11 am – noon.

“Myths, Monsters, and Legends,” also by Colin Thornton. He’ll talk about the true origins of such beasties as Bigfoot, Nessie, fairies, and all sorts of other creatures. Thursday 8/5 from 4 – 5 pm.

Registration for the convention is open; check out the full program, then go sign up and support your fellow skeptics.
